to find the answer you just need to factor the equation for the area.  Since they already give you (2x+3) you can use it to help figure out the other side... 2x times what equals 2x^2 and 3 times what equals -9? After that just check to make sure the rest adds up...

(2x+3)(x-3) = 2x^2 - 3x - 9
so (x-3) is your answer.
