what is the concept of a fuse and fuse wire

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fuses are simple devices calibrated to interrupt the flow of electricity when a predetermined load is reached at a determined voltage with the intention of protecting the circuit or devices after them. If the voltage is different of the specified in the fuse, the amperage or load to which it is suppose to disconnect wont be the same neither. The element that interrupt the electricity is usually a metal that by reaching the specified charge, melts. There are slow action or delay fuses that let the user the opportunity to let some picks or highs loads flow but for only very few seconds without the need to change the fuse every time and still protecting the circuit beyond.

fuses are used to save our costly devices........... its is done by swithcing off the circuit or opening the circuit by breaking the connection thus fuse wire is used which melts at particular voltage thus reducing the prob of harming th devices :)
