An ore is just a rock dug out of the ground. Lots of materials we use - especially metals - are contained in these rocks. We dig them up and refine them to get at the materials we want. For instance, aluminium (aluminum) is contained in an ore called bauxite; iron is found in hematite; uranium is found in pitchblende. The skill is to find ore sufficiently rich in the metal, and available in sufficient quantities in one place to make it worthwhile diggiing it out.

Ore is a term in metallurgy. It is the compound from which you extract a metal. Different metals may have different ores.
