What might happen if the order of operations was used to solve a literal equation?

I still don't understand the added value of the word "literal"..

As for using the order of operations to solve an equation, isn't that u are supposed to do if u want the right answer?

A literal equation uses SADMEP which is the order of operations but backwards. Like if you're equation is.. Solve M=2x + 3y for y. You can't just solve it with the order of operations. You have to do it backwards. Follow?

I don't have to anything "backwards", I just rearrange the equation.

Exactly. By doing it backwards though. Okay so if it were the equation i just wrote..

Solve M=2x+3y for y.

You subtract 2x from both sides and then divide on both sides. You're working backwards.
