My son is in pre-algrebra and they are working on variables. My question is how do you figure out the cost of 8 disks, if 1 disk cost $20, 2 cost $37, 3 cost $50, 6 cost $100, 10 cost $150
I am going to draw the table
Were you provided any instructions?
Maybe they want you to interpolate. The difference in cost from 6 to 10 was $50.00 The difference from 6 to 8 is 2. set up a ratio 4:50::2:x The product of the means = the product of the extremes 100=4x x=25, then 8 cds would cost $125.00
Just a SWAG if you know what I mean.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HAVE ASKED TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND THAT IS THE SAME ANSWER THEY CAME UP WITH
I hope it is correct, before calculators there were tables of sines, logs etc. And interpolation was a method to get a value for something that was not listed specifically but was between listed values.
Good luck, and I believe your son has a challenge with that course.
YES IT IS A CHALLENGE, AND HE HAS NEVER BEEN GOOD IN MATH, SO I WILL BE ON HERE ALOT
