Solve the equation x − 4 = 9

OpenStudy (aroub):

just add 4 to both sides..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x - 4 + 4 = 9 + 4 The two fours on the < side cancel each other out, because if you have -4 and add 4, you have 0. What you do to one side you must do to the otherside. So add 4 to the > side as well. So you are left with x = 13.
