I wanna know that too! : )...someone told me that they are useful while constructing bridges and stuff(Civil Engineering )...well I am a little confused ...How can an imaginary thing be useful in Real World lol

Things are just a lot simpler over complex numbers.

If we look at an n degree polynomial over the reals, it could have up to n roots, but it might have less, or none (think x^4+1=0, no real roots)

If we look at the same n degree polynomial over complex numbers, it always has n roots.

In a real world setting, we will have systems and equations that can only be solved by looking at the problem over the complex numbers.
