Part 1: Show the work to solve |3x – 2| < 7 Part 2: Describe the graph of the solution in words.

A picture is worth a thousand words ... http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i= |3x+%E2%80%93+2|+%3C+7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah that didn't help much..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now we have one interval. @pssst half the battle is deciding in advance whether your solution will be one interval or two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.... |3x-7|<7 -7< 3x-7 <7 -7+7 < 3x < 7+7 0 < 3x < 14 0 < x < 14/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[|x-a|<p\] says distance from x to a is less than p. one interval.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once you know it is one interval you can solve as a compound inequality as fiddlearound did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you see \[|x-a|>p\] you have to solve two inequalities.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in words: x is greater than 0 and less that 14/3 in plain english x is between 0 and 14/3
