Inflammation or swelling is caused by white blood cells and plasma concentrating in specific regions of tissue in an attempt to promote healing.

@Jhouser... Not necessarily. Swelling can be caused by other factors; fluid accumulation (edema), anaphylaxis, urticaria (hives), any process that will move water/fluid into the interstitial space.
