common factor is somwthing each of the numbers can use to be formed. for example 12 is 12*1, 6*2,3*4.... 1,2,3,4,6 and 12 are factors. Here, you have 6 which is 6*1 or 2*3 and 3 which is 3*1, so the greatest COMMON factor is 3
