factor the polynomial by grouping u^2+uv-4u-4v

myininaya (myininaya):

(u^2+uv)+(-4u-4v) (uu+uv)+(-4u-4v) u(u+v)-4(u+v) (u+v)(u-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You confuse me ...

myininaya (myininaya):

i did? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought that u just have to foil it out, like (a+b)(c+d). but maybe that's not what grouping is...

myininaya (myininaya):

we want to find factors for that polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(u-4)(u+v)

myininaya (myininaya):

exactly those are factors

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried that and it was wrong

myininaya (myininaya):

factor by grouping is usually done when you have 4 terms and you group the first pair together factor out what they have in common then you look at the second pair and factor out what they have in common and then you might be able to factor out something else to write it as (x+y)(a+b)

myininaya (myininaya):

its not wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind lol
