Is there a difference between the synapse and the synaptic cleft?

the synapse is the elctrochemical connection between two cells (two neurons or a neuron and an effector cell), the synaptic cleft is the tiny space between the two communicating cells into which neurotransmitters are release. it is only a part of the functioning synapse
