. A mini license plate for a toy car must consist of a vowel followed by two numbers. Each number must be a 1 or 6. Repetition of digits is permitted. • Use the counting principle to determine the number of points in the sample space. • Construct a tree diagram to represent this situation • List the sample space. • Determine the exact probability of creating a mini license plate with an A. Give solution exactly in reduced fraction form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tree diagram is a really really dumb idea here. it is counting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya i know.. prof wants us to do a tree diagram lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 vowels times 100 two digit numbers is 500 elements in the sample space

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know its 104 possiblities but how do i do a tree diagram

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did 104 come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and where did this problem come from because i have seen this exact "mini license plate" bit before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

26 * 2 * 2 = 104 possibilities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i posted it last nite... and nobody helped me with it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i mean is it in a book? now matter, we continue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its a question for my class.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

out of the 5 vowels A, E, I, O, U exactly 1 is an A so the probability that your license plate begins with an A is \[\frac{1}{5}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh crap i wasn't reading carefully. answer is correct but number of elements in sample space is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was i right on the number of possibilities?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i don't think so. if i read correctly last two numbers can only be 1 or 6 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the last two could be 16 61 11 66

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the first one could be one of 5 vowels. multiply 4 times 5 get 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want the tree diagram?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 20 on possibility? and yes please that way i know how to do it..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me try that again it is going to be ugly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be a e i o u for the top line and then 2 lines down from each letter
