from my textbook, (-1/2)/-2= 1/4 (1)1/2 * -6= 9 Why is the first answer a fraction and the latter not?

because your dividing in the 1st part and multiplying the second one. so -.5/-2 is 1/4 and 1.5x-6 would simply be 9
