This immigrant named Jurgis Rudkus and his family trying to make a living in America in the early 20th century. They all get taken complete advantage of, his loved ones die, the others run away or turn into drug-addicted prostitutes. Then he discovers Socialism, which changes his life. The Jungle also exposed the horrors of the meatpacking industry, both how unsafe it was for the workers and how iunsafe it ws to eat it :p
