Find the area between y=4sinx and y=10cosx over the interval [0, pi] . Sketch the curves if necessary. How do I determine the intersection point of the 2 curves so that I can calculate area of the 2 different regions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just make the two equations equal to each other for y coordinate 4 sinx = 10 cosx

Now determine x

Hallo across! : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. I got to that part, but how would I determine the value of x? It isn't one that is easily found without doing a lot of guessing and checking.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tan x = 2.5 Now use calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pellet. Now I feel dumb because I never thought to bring the cos function over to the left side and divide the 10 by the 4. Duh. Thank you.

Lol : )
