a can has a surface area of 371cm^2.Its height is 12cm. What is the radius of the circular top. Round to nearest hundreth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[s=2pirh\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I started with 371=2*3.14*r*12 + 2*3.14*r^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was using formula for a right circular cylinder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm getting a radius of 48.56378644

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that surface area including the top and bottom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you are trying to use the volume formula the surface formula is the one i posted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is telling me the answer should be 3.75cm but I don't get that at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got no clue then, sorry i couldn't help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its for a can the surface area they give me is total for top bottom and rectangle section as if it was opened up and spread out i think this may be my problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r=3.74ish not 5.35
