6x^2-17x+12 okay so i multiply 6 and 12 and get 72 then i came up with 9 and 8 to come up with 17 but its not -17?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9*-8=72 and -9 +(-8)=-17 You are on the right track

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

think -9 and -8 Notice how -9+-8 = -17 and (-9)(-8) = 72

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you were off by a sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see my teacher is teach us to come up with gcf of 12 and 6 at same time i see everyone else is multiplying 6 and 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg i knew that

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you only worry about the GCF when it's not 1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but in this case, the GCF of 6, -17, and 12 is 1, so no need to worry about the GCF

so 6x^2-9x-8x+12
