17. Replication, transcription, and translation A. all refer to the synthesis of macromolecules. B. refer to RNA synthesis, DNA synthesis, and protein synthesis, respectively. C. require the synthesis of polysaccharides. D. would be expected to be exergonic reactions. E. all use nucleotides as building blocks.

I chose answer b, and it wasn't correct so its either A,C,D, or E.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

DNA ---> RNA ----> protein ----> to put it simply, so the correct answer is what you thought, B. a nice diagram to go by is this sorry i did on paint, writing with touch pad is rough

Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not a problem, hope the little diagram helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it did.

The answer cannot be B because of the word "respectively" there. Replication can refer to RNA OR DNA synthesis not just RNA synthesis. Transcription does not refer to DNA synthesis, it refers to Messenger RNA synthesis. And yes translation refers to protein synthesis. So if you choose B, only 1/3 of the answer is correct. C cannot be the correct answer because polysaccharides are actually sugar storage molecules and thus have nothing to do with DNA or RNA or protein synthesis. It cannot be D because exergonic reactions refer to chemical reactions that release energy. However when synthesis occurs I would think that energy is actually CONSUMED. E cannot be the correct answer because the building block of protein is actually amino acids. Thusthe correct answer is A where it refers to the synthesis of macromolecules (RNA, DNA and Proteins are all macromolecules).
