Advantages of Linux: •Cost – The most obvious advantage of using Linux is the fact that it is free to obtain, while Microsoft products are available for a hefty \ •Security – In line with the costs, the security aspect of Linux is much stronger than that of Windows. •Choice (Freedom) – The power of choice is a great Linux advantage. With Linux, you have the power to control just about every aspect of the operating system. Two major features you have control of are your desktops look and feel by way of numerous Window Managers, and the kernel. In Windows, your either stuck using the boring default desktop theme,ALL •Software - There are so many software choices when it comes to doing any specific task. You could search for a text editor on Freshmeat and yield hundreds, if not thousands of results. My article on 5 Linux text editors you should know about explains how there are so many options just for editing text on the command-line due to the open source nature of Linux. •Hardware - Linux is perfect for those old computers with barely any processing power or memory you have sitting in your garage or basement collecting dust. Install Linux and use it as a firewall, a file server, or a backup server. There are endless possibilities. Old 386 or 486 computers with barely any RAM run Linux without any issue. Good luck running Windows on these machines and actually finding a use for them. Popularity: 75% Disadvantage * Windows Apps…Some apps just don’t work in Linux, even if you give Wine a shot. Maybe some day… U can also go to this link : http://www.foogazi.com/why-linux/
You use linux Gary?
yup
So what do they mean by linux is mainly for programmers?
if u found it helpful then give me a medal
because it is a powerful, multi-language editor, intended for use mainly by programmers ...
can u pls try my question ??????pls????????
Is there ways to change the user interface?
I am not that good at programming Gary If I was I would love to help , but I know nothing :(
I can help u in changing into Win 7 or Vista If your native language is not the one most spoken in your area, you’ve likely purchased a PC with Windows preinstalled with a language that is difficult or impossible for you to use. Windows 7 and Vista Ultimate include the ability to install multiple user interface languages and switch between them. However, all other editions are stuck with the language they shipped with. With the free Vistalizator app, you can add several different interface languages to any edition of Vista or Windows 7 and easily switch between them
Like is there any different interfaces for linux?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is, I know on ubuntu you can set it to desktop mode instead of the tabby kind of view. I think part of the idea of linux is that pretty much everything is moddable.
All modern versions of Windows have security models similar to Unix based operating systems. Furthermore, in all versions of Windows after XP, all processes are started with limited permissions by default, regardless of user (if UAC is enabled). If you don't have a particular reason why you want to switch to some flavor Linux, I suggest sticking with Windows.
@jsoeung , it is true that linux has many benefits over windows but viruses and keyloggers can come in linux too , it's just that viruses in linux are not so common because mostly viruses are made for windows platform because of its worldwide usage. If you donot know how you can work in linux then you can try reading the linux docs or you can watch video tutorials at youtube, there are many tutorials available on youtube that teach almost all the main things of linux and moreover the best way to learn linux is to start playing with it.
I personally prefer FreeBSD over Linux. Anyway, on any of the free *nixes, there is a variety of window managers/desktop environments available, from the most minimalistic to the most extravagant. Saying that Linux (or FreeBSD or any other Unix) is "mainly for programmers" is grossly inaccurate.
please go with linux its much better then the rest
windows was designed to keep stupid people away from linux
please go with linux its much better then the rest
I did !
