OpenStudy (smurfy14):

find the midpoint of -5 and 14 I got 7/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9.5; (5+14)/2

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

so its 19/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, or nine and one half

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (smurfy14):

just curious as to why it would not be 9/2 since it is a -5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't add -5 because you are considering the distance between the two points. Think of a number line this case. The total distance always has to be absolute value. Or in order words we don't have negative distance.
