What were the advantages of mercantalism for a mother country? And what were the disadvantages of mercantilism for a colony?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mother country has full advantage over the colony in the fact that it has full advantage of taxation rights.

Also, take a look at the "boston tea party" as well as "the war of independence". These events are the product of over taxation from the mother country.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mercantilism for the mother country was good because it helped the mother country to profit from the goods it sold. Coloneis were at a disadvantage because they were taxed by the British to pay for French and Indian War debts.
