O.K, I got it. There are 16 checkers left on the board. We know that some checkers are black and some are red. We know the game starts out with equal number of black and red. But, this is not the case now. As we are told that the black to red is 3:5. What does this mean? It means for every three black on the board their is 5 red. The ratio is 3:5, and the total checkers is 16. Now let us think, if it was just 3 black and 5 red there would be only 8 checkers on the board..........buy there is twice that many.....16. So that means we double the ratio for 6 black and 10 red giving the correct total of 16. There are 6 black checkers on the board.
Yeaa I don't get it
Hey thats cool, just think about it ratio of 3:5 (3 black to 5 red) whose sum would be: 3 + 5 = 8 But there is not 8 on the board, there is 16.you were told so by the problem information. Double the number of black from 3 to six. Now you have 6 black which means there must be 10 red. That gives you 16, but is it the right answer? It is if, the ratio is still 3 to 5. Is 6:10 the same as 3:5 6/10=3/5 ????? You can see that 6/10 is the same as 3/5. 6 divided by 2 is 3 10 divided by 2 is 5 The ratio holds true. The sum is correct so there must be 6 black checkers plus 10 red ones for a total of 16.
