I need help with descriptive writing, please.

The best advice I have been given is to use multiple senses or a sense that your reader would not usually use for the subject. For example, you can say. "The delicious sight of the tree filled her with the familiar feeling of home." Just don't overuse using an odd sense otherwise it gets confusing, throw them in as little gems.

Describing one thing is different than describing a scene- if you want to capture the sense of a party, try to use as many senses as possible, all about different things. The smell of food, the sound of music, the flashing lights, etc. If you want to describe only one thing, try to be, like mysimplewords said.
