events of the interaction in battle of the lakota indians

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lakota (Sioux) had some interesting concepts in battle - one of which was "Touch". Touch was the notion that getting close enough to an armed enemy to touch him was as good as striking him down with a weapon. Similar in many ways to touch football. This was compatible with other tribes who had no incentive to "fight to the death". Unfortunately it was incompatible with European settlers. Eventually this method of "limited warfare" fell by the wayside out of necessity when it came up against the mortally wounding form of battle practiced by the whites.
