The Correlation coefficient is .98 What is the slope, b, of the least squares regression line, y=a+bx for these data? X 3 6 8 9 9 13 15 18 20 21 23 23 Y 9 17 15 15 18 24 29 36 43 39 46 35

is it 3/2? feedback please!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says to round it to the nearest hundredth. so 1.5?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

im pretty sure the slope is --> b = r(sy/sx) where r is correlation, sx and sy are standard deviations of the data can't remember exactly how to find intercept though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! I can't seem to figure it out either. I will try the formula that you posted.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

ok y-intercept is --> a = y - bx where x,y are the means of the data according to your given correlation of 0.98, b = 1.75 a = 2.66 however i put your data in Excel and the actual correlation is 0.96 ??
