Annual profit in thousands of dollars is given by the function, P(x) = -.1x^2 + 50x - 300, where x is the number of items sold, x ≥ 0. what is the meaning of "-.1"?
CC, -.1 is a coefficient. It is the same concept as the number 50 in the 50x term later in your equation. In order to evaluate it, you would first calculate the X-squared term and then multiply the result by -.1. Make sense?
yes i think so. i think i may just be over thinking the problem. our tutor made it seem as though the -.1 has some sort of major significance in the overall equation, but in reality its just a given coefficient as you said. Thank you =)
::thumbs:: Cool. Yeah, sometimes it is easy to be thrown off by weird numbers.
does 300 represent the cost of something?
