GIVE EXACT AND APPROXIMATE SOLUTIONS TO THREE DECIMAL PLACES (x+6)^2=16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take the square root of both sides to get \[x+6=\left(\begin{matrix}+ \\ -\end{matrix}\right)4\] Then subtract 6 from both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+6)^2 = 16 --> x^2 + 12x + 36 = 16 --> x^2 + 12x + 20 = 0 --> (x+10)(x+2) = 0 --> x=-10, x=-2 ... --> is this the ans?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh maybe not...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is supposed to be in decimal form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what has me lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well both answers to this (-2 and -10) are integers, not decimals. So if you HAVE to give three decimal places, it would be -2.000 and -10.000
