Fun Fact #25: Ginkgo biloba is a tree that is widespread for cultivation. It is thought to be extinct in the wild as no one really knows where it used to exist in the wild. There are some populations that are thought to be a part of its original range however it is not known if these were actually planted by monks 1000 years ago (planted and cared for too). Not only this its also a little bit of a lonely plant, having no related family. In fact it is so lonely that it has been placed in its own Division (this is the taxonomic rank one below from Kingdom).
