if you want to work with IDLE (one other python shell - same as the one in video classes) on Linux:

change to root mode

on Ubuntu: apt-get install idle
/ or throw Synaptic choose IDLE package

on fedora/Centos:
yum install python-tools

For other distros you have so see what what are the packages that bring it :).
