how do i improve my spoken English, i am quite well at writing it, but the same when it comes to specking particularly public speaking? Please suggest me some way out of this problem. I have no friend or family member who speaks English.
try looking into the mirror and practicing your speech, and if you're good at writing, try writing what ever you need to say, then reading it out.. then slowly, start making the passage less detailed, and only points, and then later without any written work :)

I know a lot of the guys who work call centres in India will watch hours of British TV shows, often ones that are no longer on TV, just old recordings; they do it to become familiar with the UK's regional accents. You might want to find some television shows with educated people discussing topics without a script and sit and watch through them. Things like Newsnight and Parliamentary debates would give you an insight into how to speak BBC English, whereas shows like Have I Got News For You will be more fun to watch, and will contain English much more like the stuff we use everyday in conversation. I wouldn't normally recommend watching TV to anyone, but if you only want to learn common mannerisms, turns of phrase, that type of thing, TV might be a good place to start.
I would agree with carlsmith. Watch television or movies, even with English subs. That way if you do not understand right away what was said you can read it as well. I would encourage some social interaction as well if possible!
