Why is the ring finger on the left hand?

In ancient cultures, the ring was placed on the third finger of the left hand because it was believed that the vein in that finger led directly to the heart.

well you have a ring finger on your left and right hand but many prefer to wear it on their left . maybe its to prevent it from getting dirty while eating(some eat with thier hand) but some wear their rings on their right hand also. i hope this answers your guestion
