hey can someone please explain these instructions tome. i have to do a lab on finding the melting point , but i do not understand these instructions : for the known sample raise the temp until it is within 10 to 20 C of known value, and then lower the rate of heating to 2-3 C per minute

1st heat the sample up to a temp between 10' to 20' ceisius and then decrease the heating level so that the temp of the sample increases by 2'-3' celsius per minute.

You know what substance you are performing the experiment on. Check it's theoretical melting point from literature or online sources. That theoretical value will be your known value. So when you will be performing your experiment heat it to about that temperature and then decrease the rate of heating as mentioned.
