Specifically it is a set of 'vectors' such that it satisfies 3 conditions:

1) That the sum of any two vectors in the set yields a vector that is also in the set.
2) That all scalar multiples of any vector in the set yields a vector that is also in the set.
3) That the additive identity of these 'vectors' is also in the set. (there must be a '0' vector).
