Fun Fact #26:Today I will tell you about a really gross organism. This is the velvet worm otherwise known as an Onychophoran. It is described as a worm with legs, but that's not the gross part! When it finds its prey it spits sticky goo at them, stopping it from moving. Then the worm bites off bits of the prey and sucks them up, but this only after its injected its saliva into the organism to digest it. Well a mixture of biting and sucking and squirting it eats the poor prey. Did I mention that it also ambushes predators, hunting only at night? Good thing they only eat small invertebrates..
Well that's just terrifying.
Sounds bad for the victim!
I couldn't agree more! ..and people think sharks are scary!
Sharks are terrifying, with their black devil eyes, a worm that eats other worms isn't.
Haha, but if the worm was shark sized it would be pretty scary :P Oh and they also hunt in packs.. he he he he
That a good way to put it, but there could be worse deaths
Indeed there are
The worst I could think of, would be . . . Well if you've watched the movie Predator you would understand.
Haha, okay, I admit it, I'm too chicken to watch Predator :P
Chicken, its not a horror. You could be chicken to watch Shark Night or Friday the 13th, but not Predator
Yeah.. weak stomach, I suppose I would be fine if I watched it, its just the anticipation!
Oh yeah, I know how you feel. Would you recommend how to get rid of a phobia, by any chance?
Its not like there's a psychology section here
Oh I didn't say it was a phobia :P more of a 'cant be stuffed'. Unless you are asking for something else? Yeah no psychology, probably wouldn't get enough people.
yeah, but I'm referring if you could actually recommend a cure for a phobia, I'm not saying your weak stomach is.
Oh right, well there's always facing your fears...
yeah good advice, I'll make sure I can jump into shark infested waters and hope my fears go away
Bwah ha ha, I was expecting a catch there, I think being scared of shark infested waters is pretty healthy, especially from an evolutionary point of view
well, not shark-infested "waters". Just sharks, Great White's to be precise. Since I was young I couldn't stare at a "picture" without closing my eyes and running in fear. Still do by the way.
Well you could face pictures of sharks and see how they're just piccys nothing to be scared of and its only real sharks that you need to worry about (but since they're in the ocean you don't need to worry about those either)
Just, when I look at a sharks face, its like your facing death, I mean the reaper. I mean, how could one creature be so hideous?!
Only animal with huge mouth, black eyes, and a bad attitude
Yeah, they have pretty crazy teeth! That sounds a little like a crocodile!
yeah well, i guess fear is pretty well hard to explain
Like if you ncounter a serial killer for the first time, that EXPEREINCE would override the shark fear
sorry, I meant encounter
I dunno, I think you would just end up with 2 fears, serials killers and sharks, but defeating a fear doesn't mean you have to expierence something more scary.
You know whats odd. As much as I fear them, I enjoy knowing about them, learning. I'm actually reading JAWS right now
and your right about what you just said, in my point of view
Mind if I ask something
sure (though keep in mind this is a completely public forum)
oh no, its not private, well it could be since people might plagiarize. Either way, I posted this in the writing section, but there were only two people online and no one responded. Would a book, similar to JAWS, if published this year, be successful? Consider people's interests these days.
Huum herrm, to tell you the truth no idea! It all depends on if you could get a high end publisher and if they could promote it well enough. I don't think sharks are the 'in-thing' anymore, but who know's maybe these things change, if its good enough and if it gets the readership. In saying that though, I know nothing about the publishing industry. Yeah, the writing section can be a little slow
indeed, these it seems vampires are the main thing
I despise Twilight
Actually in my opinion, Twilight is a bit of a mockery on the classic views of werewolves and vampires. I mean whatever happened to Dracula and the Wolfman?
haha me too.. twilight is baaddd, sigh the meaning of vampires is lost
I mean, imagine vampires glowing in the sun. What the hell, their dead bloodsuckers, not human glitter tubes
You know, when I asked you about the JAWS novel thing, was because I was actually writing it. Years ago I hoped to accomplish being the youngest author ever
Similar to JAWS, not exactly
Oh you might appreciate this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draculoides_bramstokeri hehe well, mostly just the name.
Well thats a pretty high hope, I hope you achieve it!!
Interesting, and thank you for the compliments but it is too late to achieve that
Ah, too old? Well can still be a great author!
I wouldn't say old, but thanks for the confidence. Darn you Masiela Lusha!
Fair enough! and lol, darn you other person who-won the title!
She was I dont know - 12, she isn't even a writer, she wrote two books, which by the title might show that she is dark and Gothic, but is an actress
holy crap, by 12. Ah when I was 12 I was probably still playing with Barbies :P
I know! By one year! And who writes a book called Drinking the Moon?
Well a 12 year old I suppose!
I still have a chance at one title
Youngest Adult Novelist
Well you can write many titles lol, plently of life to be had. P.S probably easier to write in the chat box :)
She wote novellas and children books, minor things
And if she's at a convention, signing picture books, then I can too (just without the picture book part)
It would be awkward and interesting, people 20 years older coming to me to sign their books, one can only dream.
Well thats a good way of looking at it :) (chat thing-> bottom right of screen).Yeah, it would feel pretty good.. thanks for the fannage :)
