Easy stuff. The slope in the first case is perpendicular to the one you have, so it's the negative of the reciprocal. y = mx + b (to get the perpendicular you're searching for m) you have 5x+4y=8 which is equal to y=-(5x/4) + 2 m1 = -5/4 then m2 = 4/5 You need to check which of the equations they give you has that slope. To get the ecuation of a line when you have a point and the slope, which is the second case here, you only need to use the point-slope ecuation: y-y1=m(x-x1) so you substitute m, y1 and x1 in that equation, and it becomes y - 0 = (1/2)(x+8) which is equal to y = (x/2) + 4
