How do you complete the square?

OpenStudy (chaise):

Post a question and I will walk you through it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 + y^2 + 2x -2y -4 = 0

OpenStudy (chaise):

eg: x^2+10x+30 How do we make this into a perfect square? x^2 + 10x + (0.5x10)^2 +/- x = x^2 + 10x+ 25 - 5 = (x+5)^2 -5 It's a little hard to explain, did you understand this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to do the same thing. I have to plot the points and find the slope of the line passing through the pair of points. (-4,5,6) , (2,1,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm working on equations for cirlcles

OpenStudy (chaise):

Oh, that's different. I'm not too familiar with it, you need to put it in: (x+a)^2+(y-b)^2 = c Sorry ):

Thanks for trying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will give it a try.
