OpenStudy (preetha):

I think ring is a homonym

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ring - n. Anything having the form of such a band: a napkin ring; a smoke ring. This word is a homonym (or homophone) because it sounds like [wring] but has different spellings and meanings. Wring - v. To twist, squeeze, or compress, especially so as to extract liquid. This is how I keep the two straight... When talking on a phone, you HEAR. So, homoPHONE would be words that SOUND alike, but are spelled different. A graph is something you SEE. So, a homoGRAPH would be a word that LOOKS the same as another word, but is pronounced differently. I hope this helps you.

Here are the sentences... When you hear the phone ring, answer it. When you are done with the dishes, wring out the sponge.
