The formula for the circumferencet of bastball is C=2pieR. If the circumferencet of the ball is 29 inches and the diameter is 9.6 is this a regulation size basketball

OpenStudy (anonymous):

diameter = 2R = 9.6 in So 29 / 9.6 must be equal to pi if the basketball is a regular size one. 29 / 9.6 = 3.0208 Since pi = 3.1416, then the basketball is slightly smaller than the rules permit.

\[C=2πR\]\[C=29, d=2R=9.6\rightarrow R=\frac{9.6}{2}=4.8\]Now, replace C, R with the values given. If they satisfy the equation then the basketball is of regular size.\[29=2π\times4.8\]\[29=2\times3.14\times4.8\]\[29=30.144\] So, this ball is not on par with the regulations.
