Identify the degree of the polynomial 3a3b2 + 6a5b4 – a2b + 1

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

The degree is the highest exponent you see in the polynomial. I don't see any in yours so the degree would be 1. If however you meant 3a3b^2 + 6a5b^4 -a2b + 1, then the highest degree would be 4.

unless a5 = a^5

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

true..my guess is that he has exponents and didn't write them in correctly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's probably 5 as the a5 seems to mean a^5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the fifth degree

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

or it could be 5b^4...who knows :)

Ohhh thank you guys so much. The exponent was 5. Sorry for being specfic. Thank you guys for all the help.<3(:
