how did you get the 40 in the first line. ?

oh, shoot, im so sorry . i meant to put 4.
thats fine, the method is the same, just becomes 6x^3*[3x-4+4x+2] (no distribution in brackets) 6x^3*[7x-2] (combine like terms) 42x^4-12x^3

Just for reference the other way to write this is x^3(42x-2)
