i am getting 8 1/6 but my cal shows 6 7/8 why ???

do it on a calculator and it shows 6 7/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you simplify, 4 2/3 becomes 14/3 and 3 1/2 becomes 7/2 you can find the common denominator to get 21/6 + 21/6 which equals 42/6 which simplifies to 7
