determine if the two lines are perpendicular y=4x-9 3y=5-x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the slopes are reciprocals of each other then the lines are perpendicular. It'd be easier to get them in slope intercept form first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Opposite reciprocals*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the part i dont understand how to do

OpenStudy (aroub):

yes and when you multiply the slopes they must be equal to -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find the slope of two equations? does y=mx+b apply here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one is already in slope intercept form and the second one is y=-x/3+5/3 The slope of the first one is m in the slope intercept form so it'd be 4 The slope in the second one is -1/3. Are they opposite reciprocals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^that's your answer bud

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you
