write a description of what is required for refraction of light to happen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you need is the light to travel between two different media i.e media with different refractive indices, and then the refraction of the incident light will be explained by Snell's law sin(theta1)/sin(theta2) = n2/n1, where the light is incident on the boundary of medium 2 and initially travelling in medium 1.
