the sign of the exponent doesnt really matter then
1.0 x10^7 .... |1| = 1
6.43 x10^-123 |6.43| = 6.43
or if we are spose to expand the number than i spose d is a good enough choice

yes - isit that the exponent is positive but the first number can be neg or pos. the absolute value of say, -5 * 10^2 is 500
