the lengths of the sides of an isosceles triangle are represented by 2x+5,2x-6, and 3x-3. What are the lengths of the sides of the triangle? Please help me know how to solve! :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which equation belongs to the longest side?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

there is something missing i think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what I thought :( It doesn't state which equation is for which side..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equate two of the equations since its isosceles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean? Set any two equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

draw me a picture please with the draw tool and i'll solve it for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the problem does not give a picture, should i just make one up with the equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i figured it out, \[2x+5=3x-3................x=8.......dimensions......21,21,10\]

Thank you! So you just set two random ones equal? Or was it just guess & check style?
