OpenStudy (anonymous):
Two stars, orbiting each other, have an orbital period of 2.49 days that has increased by about 20s in the past 100 years. The masses of the two stars are M1 = 2.9 Solar Masses and M2 = 1.4SM . Assuming that this change is due to the transfer of mass between the two stars in this system, estimate the mass transfer rate between the stars. Which of these stars is gaining mass? Suggestions? Thanks!
