Which of the following locker combinations is valid for a masterlock lock? Show your work. a) 35-23-27 b) 26-8-12 or c) 15-27-33
do we have some conditions to satisfy?
yeah, masterlock and valid combo :)
im guessing she forgot her combination and is just curious which one to test out
i refrained from any 36-24-36 jokes admirably i would say
♫♫♫...one of these things just aint like the others; one of these things just isnt the same ♫♫♫
first one has a prime?
avoid the one that makes it blow up in your hand ...
Actually, there are some mathematical constraints in Master type locks. If you divide the 3rd number by 4, take the remainder R and form a sequence R, R+4, R+8,...up to 36; the first number is in this series. Then if you take the remainder and if it is 0,1 add 2 or if 2,3 subtract 2 to get S; form sequence S,S+4, S+8,.... to 36, the second number is in this sequence. Which one satisfies?
Wierd, the above factoid is true but none of the three sets satisfy; I'm wondering if satellite73 is right and that there is an artificial constraint missing.
I figured it out. Nobody had the right answer here. The correct answer is b. In order to be a lock combo, the last digit and the first have to be equivalent when put with mod 4.
Interesting, that isn't really true for the lock they are offset by 2 mod 4.
