Rheumatoid arthritis is a symmetric, inflammatory, peripheral poly-arthritis. There's no known cause. But it typically leads to deformity and destruction of joints through the erosion of cartilage and bone.

If it is untreated or unresponsive to therapy, inflammation and joint destruction can lead to loss of physical function and the inability to carry out daily tasks of living like combing your hair or keeping a job.
