How do you know if its fat or muscle? So I work out 4-6 times or so every week and I got on a scale at the gym and it said 193. I was 186 a few months ago. I thought for sure it was muscle but my sister has a personal trainer that talks about "skinny fat". "Skinny fat" is what all those good looking people that dont work out have. They are not fat people but the "skinny fat" is still there. I can never tell if I have gained muscle because I always feel scrawny anyways. how do i know if that weight is fat or muscle?

Its most likely muscle because muscle weighs more than fat.

Check your local gym to see if they have machines that can determine more accurately what your percent body fat is.
